YRE Programme

Young reporters for the environment is an award-winning programme which gives an opportunity to the youth who have a passion for change to express their concerns and ideas on the various environmental issues of their choice through the power of creative communication such as photo-video reportage and article. The programme aims to channelize the youth’s creative energy towards finding sustainable solutions to the many environmental issues the world is facing today. Young reporters, aged between 11-25 are empowered to take an educated stand on environmental issues they feel strongly about through the platform provided by the YRE programme, bringing the issues in light at both the national and global level and give them a platform to articulate these issues through the media of writing, photography and videography.

The YRE programme is coordinated by the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) Head Office based in Copenhagen, Denmark. As of September 2022, more than 320,000 students and 13,200 teachers from 42 countries were involved in the YRE programme globally. Students held over 1000 presentations about the YRE programme, reaching over 237,000 people. Despite the global Covid-19 pandemic, 10,795 photos, 4,874 articles, and 624 videos were submitted to national YRE competitions in 2020. The YRE International Competition received over 180 entries from 31 countries. Students from 21 countries were awarded places or honorable mentions by our International Jury, made up of experts in the fields of journalism, sustainability and development and representing organizations such as United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nation Environmental Programme (UNEP), and the Mars Wrigley Foundation.
